Abstract

Now a day researcher concentrated on utilization of agricultural by-product or industrial by-product. The use of these by-products is economical, sustainable and friendly to the environment. By using the agricultural and industrial by-product, it is possible to develop the sustainable concrete material. Sugar Cane Bagasse, Rice Husk is the agricultural by-products available in huge quantity and accumulated every year which causes environmental and disposal issues. Concrete is most consumed material in the world and hence the utilization of sugarcane SCBA and rice husk ash in concrete may reduce the burden on the by-products disposal authorities and reduced the adverse effect on the environment. Sugar Cane bagasse ash (SCBA) and Rice Husk ash (RHA) are proven to be having the cementitious property. The metakaolin (MK) is not by-product but it is found to be useful in improving the durability properties of concrete unlike SCBA and RHA. The researchers have experimented with these by-products in the ranges of 5% to 15% by replacing cement in concrete to get optimum durability and strength properties of concrete. This paper attempts to review the various ranges of these identified cement replacing materials in order to provide the research direction to the concerned. SCBA, RHA can be used as sustainable materials in the concrete. Hence the combination of SCBA, MK and RHA will be very effective in the concrete.
