Abstract

One of the ways for an improvement of the nuclear microprobe spatial resolution is using of more perfect probe-forming systems. The spatial resolution that a microprobe can provide mostly depends on the beam emittance and the spherical aberrations of its focusing system. The systematic investigations of parametric multiplets of magnetic quadrupole lenses were carried out trying to find out the optimal parameters for obtaining the minimum spot size of the beam on the target. The systems consisting of three, four, five, and six magnetic quadrupole lenses were considered. The value of acceptance density of a probe-forming system was used as a criterion of various systems comparison. The obtained results can be used to construct a focusing system of a nuclear microprobe.
