Abstract

In this paper, the alumina was fusion welded by femtosecond laser. The levels of each parameter were firstly optimized by monofactor analysis method. Then the complex influences of laser parameters on the weld bead geometry were clarified by Taguchi’s approach. The range analysis was used to study the significance of the process parameters on the joint size and the variance analysis were used to clarify the influence of the experimental error. The results show that a crack free Al2O3 femtosecond laser welded joint with dense ripple on the surface is obtained when the process parameters are selected reasonable. The influence degree of three factors on weld width was defocusing distance, laser power and welding speed in turns. The influence degree of three factors on weld penetration was welding speed, laser power and defocusing distance in turns. The maximum weld width and penetration is 205um and 909um, respectively. The minimum weld width and penetration is 26um and 140 um, respectively.
