Parameters of sustainability: a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis with respect to micro enterprises

To conduct a bibliometric analysis, several researchers retrieve publications from Scopus or/and Web of Science (WOS) databases. When these scholars consider both Scopus and WOS databases, they mostly make two bibliometric analysis: one from Scopus database and the other from WOS database. A few researchers merge the two databases to conduct a single analysis, but they do not specify how they did it. This paper aims to advance the bibliometric analysis by addressing two points. First, this research claims that making a bibliometric analysis that takes information from Scopus or/and separately from WOS cannot give a broader view of knowledge and tendencies in a field. To prove this claim, we retrieve papers from Scopus and WOS databases to make a bibliometric analysis of sales force literature that covers from 1912 to 2019. Results show that there are many disparities between WOS and merged database, and between this latter and WOS database regarding bibliometric analyses, especially among primary productive authors, the most influential papers, and keyword occurrences. Second, this research proposes a four-step procedure that merges these two databases to allow more reliable bibliometric analyses. This procedure was explicitly shown by using the bibliometric analysis of sales force literature during 1912–2019.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive exploration of academic research on halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior by integrating bibliometric and systematic review methodologies. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a multi-method approach, combining bibliometric and systematic review methodologies, to comprehensively analyze the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior. A data set of 184 articles published between 2007 and 2024 was sourced from the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis was conducted using Bibliometrix in R, facilitating performance analysis, science mapping and network analysis to explore key authors, affiliations, collaborations and thematic trends. Additionally, the systematic review examined the limitations and future research areas discussed in prior studies, providing the basis for formulating potential research questions to address identified gaps. Findings The study identifies significant contributions within the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior, emphasizing the critical roles of religiosity, trust and halal certification as dominant themes. Bibliometric analysis reveals key authors, influential publications and collaborative networks, highlighting Malaysia as a central hub for research in this field. Additionally, the analysis underscores the intellectual structure and thematic evolution, identifying underexplored areas such as non-Muslim perspectives, emerging halal industries and geographic diversity. The systematic review complements these insights by addressing recurring methodological and theoretical limitations, offering targeted recommendations for future research. Originality/value This research uniquely combines bibliometric and systematic review methodologies to provide a comprehensive review of the halal consumer behavior literature, identifying limitations and gaps in prior studies and proposing actionable areas for future research.

PURPOSE: This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of scholarly research focusing on using quantitative methods and particularly structural equation modeling (SEM) in management and economics studies, as well as provide a bibliometric agenda including the time horizon of individual publications, the highest citation rate, geographic and industry areas, methodological context, and keywords. METHODOLOGY: A systematic literature review (SLR) was undertaken using the Web of Science and Scopus databases. We limited our search to the last five years to identify the newest research publications, and we used keywords related to quantitative research while excluding qualitative research. Then we analyzed papers related to SEM and those published in English. FINDINGS: Our results confirmed that quantitative methods are used both in management and economics research, and showed a growing trend in the number of publications in the last five years. However, there are many more publications on management than on economics as well as there are more papers published in the Scopus database than Web of Science. Taking into account structural equation modeling, this method is used primarily in management research. In terms of industry, publications using SEM considered both single- and multi-industry including, first, all Asian countries and then African ones. Publications, especially in the management field, are descriptive in nature and based on primary data collected using a survey questionnaire. Papers are published in various journals and the most cited are those published in journals with wider subject areas. IMPLICATIONS: The systematic literature review is a fundamental necessity in any field of knowledge, benefiting both academia and learners. Our results may be useful for future researchers planning research using quantitative methods, especially SEM, in the business or economic field, by indicating the most cited papers and journals as well as industry and country areas. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: This paper represents a systematic attempt to link quantitative methods, with a particular emphasis on SEM, with research interests on managerial and economic subjects and papers published in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Employing the bibliometric analysis within the systematic literature review, the paper shows interest and the current state of research using quantitative methods which proves its value and originality.

PurposeOrganizational happiness has received exponential attention in recent years. To offer an over-view for future research gap, this article produces a comprehensive review by combining bibliometric analysis and interviews to key authors in the field. The main objective of this paper is to show the state of research regarding the environment in the management of happiness in organizations: the evolution of scientific activity, current trends in authorship, topics and future setting research agenda.Design/methodology/approachThe methodological process focuses on a mixed method. A systematic review of the relevant literature; bibliometric analysis and network mapping in the Web of Science and Scopus data-bases; bibliometric network analysis of authorship, citation and co-occurrence of key words in scientific publications.FindingsThe results reveal that happiness management is gaining importance and, moreover, more than half of the publications about happiness management are related to the environment in which the organizations are immersed. Therefore, the study provides some research directions and insists on role of environment to better understand the theoretical and practical perspectives. Likewise, bibliometric analysis and interviews allow to measure quality, impact, productivity and scientific evolution which are increasingly valued in order to identify the main concepts and topics that are considered key, drivers of research and those gaps that should be addressed in future research work for the conceptual framework of happiness management in organizations.Originality/valueConclusions are drawn that promoting corporate social responsibility strategies, aimed at fostering sustainability and care for the environment result in the well-being of organizations and the performance of their workers are highlighted.

BackgroundThe significance of mobile health (mHealth) apps transforms traditional health care delivery and enables individuals to actively manage their health. The success and effectiveness of mHealth apps heavily depend on the user experience and satisfaction. Previous studies have examined mHealth adoption through systematic literature reviews, focusing on mental health, chronic disease management, fitness, and public health responses to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the state of research, the key trends, themes, and gaps in the user experience and satisfaction with mHealth apps remain unexplored.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the state of research on user experience in mHealth apps through a bibliometric analysis. Furthermore, the study aims to systematically identify research trends and themes by extending the analysis of the science mapping technique, co-word analysis, and bibliographic coupling.MethodsThe bibliographic data corpus was collected from Scopus and Web of Science and systematically analyzed using bibliometric performance analysis and science mapping techniques. The methodology incorporates various data processing and visualization tools, including VOS Viewer, OriginLab, and SiteSpace. Then, a comprehensive review metric, combining the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework and a 4-step approach from data collection to interpretation is used.ResultsThe bibliographic analysis spans 16 years and includes 814 unique publications authored by 4870 researchers from 81 countries and 1948 organizations, published across 351 high-impact journals and prominent conferences. The analysis of research trends identifies 2 key trends: the differentiation in keyword usage for user experience and user satisfaction, and the research methodologies used within the domain. Furthermore, 5 research themes were identified exploring critical aspects of technology use, user engagement, and clinical integration. Although all 5 themes overlap, each theme focuses on distinct elements that help delineate their contributions to the overall understanding of mHealth apps: technological evaluation (Theme 1), design features for engagement (Theme 2), patient usability (Theme 3), long-term engagement factors (Theme 4), and clinical integration (Theme 5).ConclusionsThis study offers a fundamental understanding of the bibliographic landscape of research on user experience and satisfaction with mHealth apps. By identifying major research clusters, influential works, and emerging topics, this analysis provides evidence-based guidance for researchers, developers, and health informatics practitioners. Furthermore, based on the research trends findings, future research should prioritize expanding the scope of user experience (UX) evaluation by incorporating diverse user populations, longitudinal studies, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and personalized interventions. Integrating insights from interdisciplinary perspectives such as human-computer interaction, behavioral sciences, and health care informatics, the understanding of user needs and app effectiveness can be enhanced. A more standardized framework for assessing UX in mHealth apps is also recommended to facilitate comparability across studies and improve app design to maximize user engagement and health outcomes.

Bibliometric analysis has emerged as a crucial instrument for interdisciplinary scholars who aim to comprehend the complex terrain of scientific knowledge. The current study employed a bibliometric analysis to scrutinise bibliometric publications by Malaysian authors. The bibliometric datasets utilised in this study were collected from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases. The obtained datasets were subjected to analysis and visualisation through the utilisation of ScientoPy and VOSviewer. The results suggest that Malaysian authors have actively participated in producing bibliometric papers in both Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. Ahmi A. from Universiti Utara Malaysia and Lim W.M. from the Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak, have published 27 and 25 works, making them the most prolific authors. The terms “CiteSpace”, “artificial intelligence”, “PRISMA”, “machine learning”, “systematic literature review”, “Biblioshiny”, “Bibliographic coupling”, and “performance analysis” have garnered significant attention in academic circles in 2022. This study presented that India and the United Kingdom exhibit parity in co-author affiliations with Malaysian authors. The most commonly employed author keywords by previous researchers were “bibliometric analysis”, “research evaluation”, “scientometrics”, “citation analysis”, and “co-authorship analysis”. Future research endeavours could concentrate on delving deeper into these subjects and scrutinising novel topics and domains of interest in bibliometric analysis.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to identify the current academic research on the perception of sustainable organizations management and development. Methodology approach: The study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology using the SCOPUS database to identify the framework of sustainable organizations in research. The VOSviewer tool was used to exercise the co-occurrence of keywords to select specific research topics to be included in the analysis. Findings: Organizations have a key role to play in mitigating climate change, so new business models are needed to manage social, regulatory and economic interrelationships. New sustainable models are shaped by shareholders’ business objectives, stakeholder expectations and regulatory frameworks. The aspects that emerged from the bibliometric data analysis of co-occurrences and word clusters were the following: socio-economic framework (with stakeholders analyzed independently), managing for sustainability, innovation, circular business models and supply chain management. In spite of many sustainability studies, there is still a gap in knowledge on how to proceed and build sustainable business models of organizations. Research limitations and implications: Analyzing the spectrum of research on sustainable organizations to date can support future research on sustainable value creation generators and models for sustainable organizations. An important limitation factor for analyses based on the literature is the risk of omitting important aspects of sustainable organizations, as research based on co-occurrence of words has such limitations. Practical implications: The research impacts interrelated and complex relationships among helices in the Triple helix model: academia, business, and regulations. It aims to trigger innovations in the business sphere. It is useful to bring academic research into practice as part of a Triple Helix approach and its more developed forms, clearly addressing regulatory challenges and practical application in business. Originality/value: Identifying the state of research on sustainable organizations aims to recognize the current trends in sustainable organization better and understand the picture of academia approach.

Although Experience Quality has been extensively researched, comprehensive studies remain limited. This research aims to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis of existing empirical work on Experience Quality. The methodology used is SLR, with data collected from the Scopus database using the search term "Experience Quality" in the title, abstract, and keywords. This search yielded 1,297 publications from 1965 to 2025 (evaluated on October 24, 2025). The data were analyzed bibliometrically using VOSviewer. The findings confirm that experience quality has a significant effect on brand perception and customer satisfaction, which consequently impacts customer loyalty. Practically, this implies that brand and service managers must treat experience quality as a strategic variable, as good products or services alone are insufficient for long-term loyalty. Socially, positive experiences are shown to strengthen social networks, increase community involvement, and promote inclusion. This research is limited by its reliance solely on the Scopus database; future research should integrate additional databases, such as Web of Science, for broader generalization. Despite the global development of this topic, in-depth, structured studies are scarce. This research is valuable and original as it provides a comprehensive summary and a research roadmap through SLR and bibliometric analysis.

This study explores the relationship between ESG controversies and corporate financial performance, focusing on key trends, influential contributions, and dominant theoretical frameworks and research methods in this area. It aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolving research landscape and its associated implications. It conducts a systematic literature review utilizing PRISMA protocols along with bibliometric and content analyses. Data were extracted from the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases, resulting in a final selection of 37 high‐quality articles published between 2004 and 2024. The analysis identified stakeholder, legitimacy, and agency theories as the most frequently used theoretical frameworks. Results reveal a significant increase in publications since 2022, with ESG controversies affecting corporate financial performance through financial risks and reputational challenges. Key gaps include limited sector‐specific research, short‐term financial measures, the dominance of quantitative methodologies, and the incorporation of emerging technologies. The study is limited to the WoS and Scopus databases, focusing on peer‐reviewed articles in English. It highlights opportunities for future research in emerging markets, sector‐specific studies, and integrative qualitative and mixed‐method approaches. The findings emphasize the importance of board independence and corporate social responsibility initiatives in addressing ESG controversies. Companies should align their corporate governance structures with ESG strategies to improve transparency, stakeholder trust, and financial resilience. This study offers a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of ESG controversies and corporate financial performance, providing valuable insights for academics, practitioners, and policymakers to explore this research area.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the disruptive potential of blockchain technology in the field of accounting. By conducting a systematic review and bibliometric analysis, the research aims to identify key clusters and trends that illustrate how blockchain can transform traditional accounting practices. This includes improving transparency, enhancing data security, automating processes and integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. This study also seeks to highlight current research gaps, challenges in practical implementation and the future impact of blockchain on governance and financial systems. Design/methodology/approach This study uses two main methodologies: a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. The systematic review follows the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to identify and analyze relevant articles from Scopus, Web of Science and EBSCO databases, using specific search equations related to blockchain and accounting. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to identify key clusters and trends within the collected literature. Clustering techniques, such as exploratory factor analysis, were applied to explore the relationships among documents, keywords and authors, providing insights into the evolution of blockchain’s impact on accounting practices. Findings The results of this study reveal four primary clusters in the intersection of blockchain and accounting: CryptoLedger Accounting Network, TransparentChain Trust Framework, IntelliLedger Accounting Tech and DigiGov Ledger Insights. These clusters highlight key areas where blockchain technology is transforming accounting practices, such as enhancing transparency and trust in supply chains, integrating artificial intelligence for accounting automation and improving data security. The bibliometric analysis also identified emerging trends, including the increasing relevance of smart contracts, the challenges of integrating blockchain with existing systems and the need for updated regulatory frameworks. Practical implications In this sense, this paper presents several theoretical and practical implications, as well as identifying possible limitations and gaps in current knowledge, providing new opportunities for the establishment of future lines of research, such as robust regulatory frameworks, privacy and security considerations, and the practical implementation of blockchain solutions in real-world accounting scenarios. Originality/value This study provides a unique contribution by synthesizing the disruptive impact of blockchain technology on accounting through a combination of systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. By identifying four distinct research clusters, this paper offers fresh insights into how blockchain integrates with accounting practices, particularly in transparency, automation and security. It also highlights emerging challenges and research gaps, such as regulatory frameworks and practical implementation. The originality lies in the comprehensive exploration of blockchain’s multifaceted role in modernizing accounting, offering valuable guidance for both academics and practitioners navigating this evolving field.

This study aims to conduct a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis on Transformational Leadership (TL), based on empirical research. Despite extensive studies on TL in recent decades, comprehensive research remains limited. The methodology used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of articles containing “Transformational Leadership” in the title, abstract, or keywords, sourced from the Scopus database, which yielded 1,297 publications from 1977 to 2025. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer software. The findings suggest that TL is an innovative model in vocational education, bridging industrial systems with academic environments for authentic, practice-based learning. However, challenges include limited resources, insufficient instructor training, and inadequate institutional support. Recent innovations, such as advanced ICT, holographic technology for real-time interaction, and digital twins for process optimization, have enhanced the model's effectiveness. The study also discusses the conceptual framework of TL. This research uses the Scopus database, and future studies could broaden its scope by incorporating other databases like Web of Science. Practically, the study’s findings suggest integrating modern pedagogical strategies, including gamification, simulation, and project-based learning, to enhance student engagement and understanding of manufacturing processes. Socially, it encourages educational institutions to invest in infrastructure, strengthen industry partnerships, and provide continuous instructor training. This study highlights the growing global research on TL and calls for deeper exploration of the topic in existing literature.

Introduction:The field of medical education (ME) has grown substantially over the past decades, yet questions remain about its scope and boundaries. This study examines how research topics and institutional collaborations have evolved in ME from 2000 to 2019.Methods:Adopting a post-positivist stance and using bibliometric network analyses, we examined metadata from 31,338 publications across 22 core ME journals indexed in the Web of Science. We analyzed trends in institutional collaboration and the development of research themes. Extracted metadata included authors’ institutional affiliations and KeyWords Plus (n = 18,218). Bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer, a widely used tool for network mapping. We generated co-authorship networks to trace institutional collaboration and co-word networks to identify thematic clusters.Results:Co-authorship networks revealed increasing collaboration, with U.S. institutions remaining central and Canadian and Dutch institutions gaining prominence. Co-word analyses identified three stable clusters—teaching and learning, quantitative, and psychosocial—with teaching and learning dominant across all periods and the quantitative cluster expanding in recent years.Discussion:Findings show the consolidation of teaching and learning as the foundation of ME, alongside diversification through quantitative and psychosocial themes. Growing collaborations suggest the field’s maturation, though geographic imbalances persist. Limitations include reliance on a restricted set of Web of Science journals, which overrepresent English-language and highly cited publications, and the use of KeyWords Plus as a proxy for themes. This study offers an evidence-based mapping of ME’s evolution and provides a framework for future research on the interdisciplinary and global dynamics of the field.

This study integrates bibliometric and content analysis methods to provide a comprehensive review of digital transformation dynamic capabilities. Bibliometric analysis is conducted using VOSviewer on relevant publications retrieved from the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases to evaluate and visualize the existing literature. The findings identify key publishing trends, leading countries and journals, influential authors, and the most researched sectors in this field. Co-citation and co-occurrence analyses highlight major research topics. Additionally, content analysis is used to categorize digital transformation dynamic capabilities into three dimensions: sensing, seizing, and transforming/reconfiguring. This study offers valuable insights into the capabilities required for digital transformation, supporting both companies and researchers in understanding and applying these concepts effectively.

The purpose of this paper is to conduct a systematic literature review on regional smart specialisation strategies, through a bibliometric and systematic analysis, combining performance analysis and scientific mapping to detect and visualise the concurrent subdomains and their evolution over time, pointing out future lines of research. The methodology of this systematic review is based on three phases: (1) database search, (2) bibliometric analysis, and (3) systematic analysis. In the first phase, the PRISMA protocol is used and publications are obtained from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. In the bibliometric analysis, the performance analysis and scientific mapping are carried out, using the R Studio software (version 4.02), using the biblioshiny with the bibliometrix package. The systematic analysis is based not only on the results obtained in the bibliometric analysis, but also on the methodological and content information taken from the publications. This article analyses and relates four clusters—knowledge, policy, innovation, specialization—indicated by the strategic diagram and trend topics, and 15 ‘themes’: policy, innovation, knowledge, priorities, systems, institutions, entrepreneurial discovery process, diversification, related variety, clusters, multi-level governance, helix model, competitive advantage, geography, and six critical questions. The paper systematizes the literature, filling a gap on the experience gained from the implementation of these strategies in the regional, addressing the critical questions and challenges that have arisen during their implementation in this context.

This study aims to explore the research themes and identify gaps on strategy-based instruction (SBI) and self-regulated learning (SRL) in language education, spanning the period from 1994 to 2024. Using a systematic review methodology, this study examines the empirical research in the SBI and SRL in English as second or foreign language teaching contexts published during this period. The review employs both bibliometric and content analysis to reveal current trends to facilitate understanding of the role of SBI and SRL in teaching practices. Using VOSviewer, a keyword co-occurrence analysis was conducted on 35 selected papers from Web of Science and Scopus databases. The bibliometric analysis reveals a shift in research focus from student self-development to the impact of learning strategies on students' learning achievement. The content analysis indicates that studies have focused on writing instruction, enhancement of learners' SRL, and technology-assisted instruction, with the latter showing potential for developing students' SRL strategies. Overall, this study highlights the significance of integrating SBI and SRL into language education, offering insights into writing instruction, technology-assisted learning, and SRL development. It emphasizes the need for future research to explore specific skills, technology-assisted learning, longitudinal mixed-methods approach. This paper aims to serve as a useful resource for researchers and practitioners involved in research related to EFL and ESL teaching.
