Abstract
High degradation of the conductor by corrosion is generally observed on faulty 4 × 150 mm2 XLPE low-voltage Belgian distribution cables. Deep investigations were performed in order to understand if the corrosion is the consequence or the cause of the breakdown. The necessary conditions for which corrosion will start (voltage, water, pierced insulation) were studied. The main parameters for which the corrosion process will be accelerated (temperature, salt concentration etc.) were determined. The results of those investigations are given here.
