Abstract

Based on the selection of urban bus working conditions, the parallel power train system, including engine, motor, battery, and transmission, has been designed and developed for compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric hybrid urban bus. In addition, to get better performance and higher efficiency of the CNG-electric hybrid urban bus, the specific control strategies under all kinds of working conditions have been established as well. The layout of power train system is determined, the model of power train system is established, and component parameters matching are simulated by AVL Cruise V3.0 software. The road tests are carried out under the urban bus working conditions. The maximum gradability rises by 24%, the maximum speed rises by 3.3%, the acceleration performance rises by 6.4%, and the fuel consumption reduces by 24.8% in the typical Chinese urban bus cycle working condition. Therefore, the performances of power, economy and emission have been obviously improved, compared with traditional CNG urban bus. The conformity of the final simulation results with the test data indicates that this method can be used to design the power train system of CNG-electric hybrid urban bus.
