Abstract

The paramagnetic resonance of Mn++-ions in hexagonal synthetic and natural ZnO-crystals has been analysed at X-band frequencies. From the spectrum H | c, at 300 °K, the following values for the parameters of the Spin-HAMiLTONian resulted with sign D = sign A = - sign(α-F). Third order corrections to the Spin-HAMILTONian had to be included in this analysis. The parameter of the cubic field splitting, | α | = 0.000620 ± 0.000005 cm-1, was determined from the splitting of some fine structure lines, which is due to the two different lattice sites in the wurtzite structure. An anomalous increase in linewidth was observed at 77 °K for synthetic ZnO-crystals.
