Abstract

Single carrier frequency division multiple accessing (SC-FDMA) technique is the future generation modulation technique for uplink transmission in wireless communication system. It promises to deliver high throughput, low bit error rate, high spectral efficiency with low peak to average power ratio (PAPR) than the orthogonal frequency division multiple accessing (OFDMA) technique. In this paper mathematical modeling and Matlab simulation has been carried out to obtain PAPR performance for different modulation formats and number of subcarriers for SC-FDMA technique. The results indicate that the interleaved FDMA (IFDMA) delivers lowest PAPR value compared to localized FDMA (LFDMA) and distributed FDMA (DFDMA) technique. For 512 numbers of subcarriers with 4 QAM modulation format, IFDMA gives 10.3 dB lower PAPR value than that of OFDMA. Similarly, LFDMA has 3.4 dB lower PAPR value than that of OFDMA. As the modulation format is increased to 16 QAM the reduction in PAPR values are 7.0 dB and 2.6 dB and with further increase to 64 QAM these reductions are 5.8 dB and 2.4 dB in IFDMA and LFDMA respectively.
