Abstract
One of the claims attributed to gas turbines by their pioneers was their simplicity of design. Although this claim can still be applied to some engines, others with variable intake geometry, bleed valves, movable guide vanes, multi-staged turbines and recuperators have stretched the definition of simplicity. The control of these engines to satisfy the varying demands has also become complex and aggravated by the mixing of control media. The paper discusses advancements in control technology and how these advancements can affect both the design and application of gas turbines.
