Abstract

A new stratigraphie framework of the Quaternary group of the Saint-Lawrence valley is proposed as a result of the reassessement of classical sections, based upon a study of the new sections (UQUAM, Département de Géographie, Montréal) and of a systematic analysis of the pollen content in non-glacial units (Centre de Géomorphologie, CNRS, Caen, France). Several units of glacial, fluvial, lacustrine and glaciolacustrine sediments have been recognized. These faciès are repeated. Fluvial units of different age are inset into the underlying units. Several rhythmites units have been found. The Leclercville Rhythmites are notably, distinguished by seasonal laminations. They indicate a sedimentation in a shallow lake, surrounded by a coniferal forest, in a cool climate. Their stratigraphie position is not established.
