Abstract

A new species of cryptodiran turtle is described on the basis of an imprint and bones of a specimen from lignites of Rott (Latest Oligocene, MP30), near Bonn (Germany): Palaeochelys mlynarskii n. sp. Moreover, the type-species P. bussenensis Meyer, 1847, is redescribed. It comes from the base of the Upper Freshwater Molasse from Bussen bei Ulm, Würtemberg (Germany), latest Lower Miocene to earliest Upper Miocene (ca MN4 to MN9) in age.
