Abstract

Postoperative control of pain in infants and children was formerly thought to be of little matter, but data relatively recently developed indicates that, for a variety of reasons, control of pain is of great importance for the pedatric patient. This chapter summarizes some of the data which have led to the contemporary appreciation of the importance of pain control. It also outlines techniques for providing optimal control of pain in the postoperative cardiac patient.
