Abstract
In this study, the submicron inorganic cooling powders (CDS) were added during the process of PA 6 (Polyamide 6, Nylon 6) in situ polymerization to fabricate composites with coolness effect. It was in the course of synthesizing e-caprolactam (CPL) to form PA 6, the submicron inorganic cooling powders (CDS) with various amount were added. Such PA 6/ CDS composites were fabricated by the purification and vacuum drying procedure. The effects on the chemical, mechanical and thermal properties of PA 6/ CDS composites with various loading of cooling powders were investigated. The data of ATR-FTIR analysis showed neither new group was made nor phenomenon of displacement was happened. From the EDS results, the featuring peaks of Ca and Mg were noticed. The relative viscosity and molecular weight of PA 6/ CDS composites were obtained from the determination method of relative viscosity and amino end groups. The experiment results showed that the relative viscosity and molecular weight of PA 6/ CDS composites decreased with the increasing quantity of cooling powder. Also, the surface analysis of cooling composites was conducted by SEM. As to obtain the thermal properties of PA 6/ CDS composites, the decomposition temperature of composites and its relationship to the weight loss were examined by TGA. In addition, the variation in glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) were analyzed with DSC. Furthermore, the tensile property and compressibility of PA 6/ CDS composites were studied. From the experimental results, it showed that the hard and though characteristics of such composites were turned into hard and strong while increasing the quantity of cooling powder. Finally, the functional properties were analyzed by Q-max, quick thermal conductivity meter and thermocouple temperature testing system. It was observed that the coolness effect increased with increasing the quantity of cooling powder.
