Abstract

Pulmonary carcinoids are well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms with a general indolent behaviour. However, some patients with carcinoid develop recurrence of disease after curative surgery. Previously, loss of Orthopedia Homeobox (OTP) RNA and protein expression has been independently associated with a poor prognosis independent of histological subtype. The regulatory mechanism underlying OTP expression, however, remains to be elucidated. Here, we investigated OTP expression in 37 different cancer types and unmasked the mechanism regulating OTP expression in lung neuroendocrine neoplasms (LNENs).
