Abstract

Aging is associated with subtle changes in gastrointestinal function and in the levels of intestinal hormones secreted. Enterochromaffin cells containing serotonin (5-HT) and melatonin may play an important role in maintaining gut function during aging. Our aim was to characterise the mucosal levels of 5-HT and melatonin in a mouse model of aging.
