Abstract
To evaluate the intra operator and the inter operator reproducibility for the assessment of the ovarian follicle. This prospective comparative study included 22 infertile women undergoing intra uterine insemination procedure in mono dominant follicle cycle. At different days during the mono follicular stimulation, 34 ovarian follicles were analyzed. For each follicle, two different operators practiced 3 different kinds of assessment: (1) 2D classical diameter, (2) 3D semi automatic volume calculation with VOCAL® software and (3) 3D automatic volume calculation with SonoAVC® software. The calculation of the reproducibility was done with the intra class correlation. Intra operator and inter operator reproducibility were assessed by inter class correlation coefficient. The intra operator ICC was equivalent with the VOCAL® (0.96; 0.94–0.98) and the SonoAVC® (0.96; 0.94–0.98) and better than the 2D classical diameter (0.62; 0.45–0.79). The inter operator ICC was equivalent with the VOCAL® (0.94; 0.90–0.98) and the SonoAVC® (0.94; 0.90–0.99) and better than the 2D classical diameter (0.83; 0.73–0.94). The assessment of the ovarian follicle with ultrasound is more reliable when the evaluation was practiced with a 3D volume calculation than when this measure was practiced with the 2D classical diameter. It opens new perspectives for accurate and objective assessment of ovarian function by ultrasound.
