Abstract
One of the so‐called Mabinogion group of Middle Welsh tales, Peredur fab Efrawg was probably first composed in the thirteenth century. Although the narrative has affinities with Le Conte du Graal , the late twelfth century French grail romance by Chrétien de Troyes, it also contains material derived from Welsh tradition and from other, post‐Chrétien French romances. The four medieval manuscripts of Peredur , dating from c. 1300 to c. 1400, indicate that the earliest version was short and that further episodes were added later.
