Abstract

FSH stimulation of estrogen production by follicles is essential to normal ovarian function. Paracrine factors have long been known to modulate FSH stimulation of granulosa cells. Smad3, a signal transduction molecule for the TGF? superfamily of growth factors, is necessary for normal folliculogenesis. The objective of this study is to determine the role of Smad3 on aromatase expression and activity following stimulation of granulosa cells with FSH and/or activin.
