Abstract

AbstractWe have developed a reconfigurable, super high luminance, active matrix VFD for Heads Up Display (HUD) use. At this time, we tried to improve our CIG (Chip In Glass) technology to satisfy both performance of ultra high brightness and reconfigurable screen. To solve this issue, we focused on the following points: (1) Active matrix driving, (2) Direct phosphor printing onto electrodes placed on surface of the IC chip. (3) Narrow pitch filament design with grid less structure. In the results, we have successfully realized a reconfigurable VFD which performs max. 32,000 cd/m2. In this paper, the structure of the active matrix VFD and its performance are described.
