Abstract

Work measurement as detailed in the previous chapter involves stopwatch time study of fairly long task cycles, and it becomes quite difficult to time individual elements less than 5 s. For shorter elements involving micro motions, like the therblig ‘Reach’ or ‘Move’ as explained in Chapter 13, it is easier to compute from the weight and distance moved, more than to measure these infinitesimally small elemental times. In such cases the predetermined time standards would come handy computing the time for each therblig. This chapter details how such standard times are established.
