Ozone-oxygen oxidation of cumene in the presence of transition-metal salts

Abstract

1. Cobalt acetate is the most selective catalyst for the reaction of cumene with ozone. 2. The highest catalytic effect is observed with a 5∶1 mole ratio mixture of Co(AcO)2 and Mn(AcO)2. 3. The catalytic effect of the transition metals is due to their ability to increase the initiation rate and, at the same time, bring into play the oxygen which enters the system.
