Abstract

Endogenous consumption of oxygen by human gingiva in various inflammatory degrees was determined polarographically. The gingival biopsies were divided into 4 groups according to the histological degree of inflammatory infiltration. The oxygen uptake was mensuted for 5 hours. The differences in the RA quotient values among the individual groups were found insignificant (RA ‐ oxygen amount in mg, consumed by 1 gram of dry matter of the tissue per hour). Statistically significant differences were found in the rate of decrease of the RA.
