Abstract

For instance, one of the metallocyclam units in the metalloxylyl-bicy-clam is folded with Cis-V configuration, where the carboxylategroups (Asp 262 and Glu 288) of CXCR4 interact by coordi-nation bond as well as hydrogen bonds. Another metallocyclamin the metalloxylyl-bicyclam takes a Trans-I configurationand the aspartate carboxylate (Asp 171) group of CXCR4coreceptor is implicated in the binding site. Therefore, theunderstanding of the nature of interactions between specificmetallocyclam configurations and carboxylate groups ona biological target is crucial for the development of poten-tial anti-HIV drugs. Especially, the Cis-V, Cis-I, and Trans-Iconfigurations of folded metallocyclams are a major concernfor the development of potential anti-HIV agent. Never-theless, isolation and characterization of metal cyclam com-plexes bearing folded cyclams are sparse ( Scheme 1).
