Abstract

Surface acidity/basicity and catalytic activity/selectivity of alkaline earth (Ca, Ba and Sr) promoted CeO 2 , Nd 2 O 3 and Sm 2 O 3 catalysts in oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) at different reaction conditions (temperature = 650°–850°C, CH 4 /O 2 ratio = 4.0 and 8.0 and GHSV = 103,200 cm 3 .g 1 .h 1 ) have been investigated. The acidity and basicity of the catalysts is strongly influenced by the promoters. Among the catalysts, Sr-CeO 2 showed best catalytic performance. The alkaline earth promoted Nd 2 O 3 and Sm 2 O 3 catalysts are found to be highly active and selective even at low temperature (650°C) in the OCM.
