Abstract

The corundum-graphite material produced using a complex (combined) binder possesses higher oxidation resistance at temperatures exceeding 1400°C owing to the formation of a protective borosilicate glass layer on its surface. Oxidation of the material produced using an argillaceous binder leads to complete burning-up (depletion) of carbon contained in it. When using the products made from the materials based on the complex binder at 500–1400°C, it is advisable to subject them to prior heat treatment in air at 1450–1500°C. This treatment protects them from active oxidation during service.
