Abstract

An overview of the present diagnostics system for a reversed-field pinch machine, the toroidal pinch experiment RX [TPE-RX, R/a=1.72/0.45 m, Ip<1 MA (designed)], is presented. The diagnostic system of TPE-RX consists of measurement systems for (1) equilibrium configuration, (2) perturbing modes, and (3) global confinement properties. A concise explanation is given for these diagnostics systems. The mode-measurement system, in particular, is equipped with high toroidal resolution (up to the mode number of 32), which is necessary for the reversed-field pinch configuration. We have magnetic, thermal, and spectroscopic measurement systems for the toroidal distribution of the perturbing modes, which are useful for revealing the mode-locking structure.
