Abstract
It is likely that the mechanism of action of an IUD (associated with leukocytic reactions) is limited to the uterine environment by prevention of nidation and cannot protect a woman from ectopic or ovarian pregnancy. Incidence of ovarian pregnancies in IUD wearers is the same as the rate observed in a normal population of non-IUD users. After citing an example of misinterpretation of symptoms of ovarian pregnancy in a 6-month IUD user it is concluded that symptomatology of possible gynecologic emergency should be handled according to symptoms regardless of IUD presence.
