Abstract

Primary ovarian pregnancy is a rare entity, the incidence being 1 in 25,000 to 40,000 pregnancies. The diagnosis is difficult and still continues to challenge the clinicians. A case of ovarian pregnancy is reported here. The patient underwent laparotomy with right sided oophorectomy. Histopathological examination confirmed it to be an ovarian pregnancy.

Introduction

Ectopic pregnancy is an important health problem, accounting for about 10% of maternal mortality.[1]. Its incidence has been reported as 1 in 25,000 to 1 in 40,000 deliveries and accounts for 1 to 3% of all ectopic gestations.[2] Of late there has been an increase in the incidence of ovarian pregnancies due to better diagnostic modalities such as transvaginal ultrasonography and serum bhCG estimation.
