Abstract

IN THE chicken, theoretical follicular growth-ovulation sequence curves were constructed by Stieve (1918) for the ova in rapid development. Riddle (1916) stated that rapid development starts when the ova have obtained a diameter of about 6 mm., while Lacassagne (1957) stated that it started when the ova deposited fat soluble dyes, or at 8 mm. diameter. Stieve postulated from his follicular growth curves that ova ovulated on successive days would show relatively small differences in weight, while relatively large differences in weight would correspond to the day or days when no ova would be ovulated. Buss (1963) stated that ova of nearly identical weight would be ovulated at the same time and form double or triple yolked eggs.Riddle (1908) fed Sudan III, a fat soluble dye, to laying chicken hens and found it deposited in concentric rings in the ova of the subsequently laid eggs, with each ring corresponding .
