Abstract
Ovarian tumors are relatively rare in the pediatric age group. They make up 1.5 % of all childhood malignancies. Although rare, they can be malignant and lethal. They represent a range of pathologies ranging from highly aggressive malignant tumors to benign cysts. Epithelial cysts and benign teratomas are the most common benign tumors and germ cell tumors are the most common malignant tumors. Treatment of all ovarian malignancies involves salpingo-oophorectomy. For complete staging of ovarian malignant tumors, omentectomy, lymph node sampling, and peritoneal washing is recommended. Patients with malignant germ cell tumors in addition to surgery are treated with chemotherapy. This is cisplatin-based chemotherapy and proved to be very effective.
