Abstract

As an inverter power supply, the battery energy storage system has very different transient and steady state characteristics from the traditional synchronous generator. With the increasing proportion of battery energy storage system in new power systems, it has a greater impact on the relay protection of transmission lines. In this paper, the mathematical model of the battery energy storage system is established, and the simulation model of the battery energy storage system is built using PSCAD software to study the fault characteristics when a short circuit fault occurs in the outgoing line between the battery energy storage system and the power system. It is a pioneering research for the fault characteristics analysis of transmission outgoing line. The results show that when a short circuit fault occurs in the outgoing line of the battery energy storage system, the fault current is limited by the inverter, and the zero sequence current has the greatest impact on the short circuit current. The fault characteristics on both sides of the fault point are also different.
