Abstract
This article is devoted to reflecting the scientific views of the German music researcher and teacher Hugo Riemann (1849-1919) in the theoretical works of Chinese music activist, composer, teacher and researcher Xiao Youmei (1884-1940). The article touches upon the details of personal interaction between Riemann and Xiao Youmei, the influence of the German musicologist on the research activities of his Chinese student, the commonalities in their views on the problems of music history and theory, and Xiao Youmei’s specific scientific approach to the study of musicologicalproblems.
