Abstract

The article deals with the issue of developing an integrative view of the attitudes of the population of the USSR towards China from the 1960s to the 1990s from the point of view of analyzing data from mass surveys. Starting from the earliest attempts to analyze the mass attitudes of Soviet citizens towards China, undertaken by emigre scientists, in the literature persists a thesis about a predominantly negative, or even sharply negative, attitudes of the population of the USSR towards China in the period of the 1960s - 1980s. However, based on a comparative analysis of fragmentary data from mass surveys of the late 1960s and late 1980s, it seems possible to present some arguments against this thesis.
