Abstract

A mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion located at the apex of a mandibular premolar is described herein. Microscopically, this lesion was shown to be an ossifying fibroma. Differential diagnosis of these lesions is discussed, and the point is stressed that such a lesion may be easily mistaken for a much more common lesion, like a periapical granuloma or radicular cyst. The ossifying fibroma may be easily treated by curettage, but because recurrences have been observed, a careful follow-up is mandatory.
