Abstract

This article focuses on the study of the furniture industry in the former parish of Valbom (Gondomar), 1860-1911, based on the survey and analysis of parish records. The furniture industry experienced a significant development in this period, covering a large number of workers related to wood (carvers, carpenters, turners, etc.). The parish registers are a fundamental source for the knowledge and evolution of this activity. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the importance of this source for understanding the genesis and growth of the furniture industry in Gondomar, which became one of the most important economic activities in the municipality in the 20th century
