Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the students’ dialogues while analyzing a mathematical model of the free fall phenomenon. The context of the research is an extension course offered to Mathematics Majors of an University at Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, which proposed the study of Calculus concepts based on the analysis of the mathematical model mentioned above. The research is a qualitative approach and is based on the studies of Alro and Skovsmose (2006) about the communication in Mathematics classrooms. The data analysis pointed to two moments in the extension course: one characterized by the communication pattern of quizzing and the other characterized by the inquiry cooperation.
