Abstract

The evolution of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has enabled the formation of work teams connected by a common objective, despite being dispersed geographically, temporally, and organizationally: the global virtual teams (GVTs). However, this team’s management is challenged by intercultural and linguistic barriers, time zone differences, difficulties in coordinating efforts, and maintaining the participants' motivation and engagement. Thus, this study's objective was to investigate the perceptions of managers about these challenges and good practices. For this, 13 interviews were carried out with Brazilian managers working in two multinational companies in the technology sector. The data were analyzed according to the content technical analysis (CÂMARA, 2013). The result was the identification of challenges related to cultural, institutional, individual contextual aspects, communication, and the enumeration of good practices applied to personalized management, people management, and process management focused on processes.
