Abstract

This study related to determine the rate of distribution and infestation of Cereal Weevil [ Pachytychius hordei (BrullA©)] which is a main harmful insect of wheat and barley in Central Anatolia region has been carried out in 1995-1996. According to the results of survey; Konya, Isparta and Afyon are the major provinces interms of cereal planting area respectively. Also it has been seen that the line between Ankara and Konya is the last border where P.hordei has been distributed and infested. Interms of sexual index; the rate of male P.hordei was higher than female species, about 1/1.22-1/4.00. In the heading stage period 20.30% (14.6-23.9) infestation rate (larvae+adult harm) has been determined in barley field where 61.3-103.3 P.hordei had been founded every 10 sweep net. In the same phenological period 14.9% (10.2-19.2) yield loss has been determined wheat fields where 60.3-127.5 P.hordei adults had been founded in every 10 sweep net. The yield loss just coming from the adults of P.hordei is about 4.4% (2.5-5.6) in barley and 2.7% (0.0-4.9) in wheat. As a result the infestation rate of P.hordei larvae and adults higher than that was in wheat field, and the yield loss coming from larvae was higher than the yield loss coming from adults in both wheat and barley fields.
