Abstract

Orientation relationships between austenite and deformation induced martensites for Fe-20Ni-0.5C alloys have been studied by transmission electron microscopy. Thirteen deformation induced martensites with different K-S relations and N-W relations on different {111} f plane in one austenite grain have been analysed by electron diffraction combined with corresponding matrix methods. It was found that most martensite plates obey K-S relations; N-W relations can only be found in lath like martensites characterized by both sides of α'−γ interfaces parallel to the {1111} f slip plane. N-W orientation relationship will be favourable when the second shear of Kurdjumov-Sachs shear mechanism is restricted by the {111} f austenite slip system.
