Abstract
Thomas M. Skrtic is an associate professor of Special Education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. His 1988 book with Edward Meyen, Exceptional Children and Youth: An Introduction (Love Publishing) includes a critical analysis of special education knowledge and organization [see the 11(3) issue of Teacher Education and Special Education ]. In the first of his forthcoming books, Exploring the Theory/Practice Link in Special Education: A Critical Analysis (Council for Exceptional Children), he and his colleagues provide a critique of special education and the notion of disability from various theoretical perspectives in the social sciences and humanities; in the second, Behind Special Education: A Critical Analysis of Professional Knowledge and School Organization (Love Publishing), he applies various organizational perspectives to past and current efforts to reform special and general education. Dr. Skrtic's research interests include philosophical pragmatism, organization analysis, and the politics of special education.
