Abstract

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the professional training of the high school teacher in theUnited States, where a successful experience of the functioning of the system of training and advanced training of the teaching staff has been accumulated. The system is characterised by flexibility and variability, ability to quickly adapt to the needs of the modern information society. It is substantiated that the decisive role in this process is played by universities – the leading institutions of higher education, which have a powerful scientific and methodological potential. The purpose of the paper: to analyze the organisational principles of professional training of a high school teacher in the USA. Methods of research used: analysis, synthesis, generalization, scientific interpretation of specific pedagogical facts and phenomena, study of documents. It is proved that the profession of a high school teacher in the USA involves scientific research and pedagogical activities. The first component determines the high scientific potential of the specialist, which is explained by special training during the postgraduate studies, the second one is acquired as a result of pedagogical experience. The system of professional training, retraining and advanced training of a teacher of higher education involves three stages: pre-professional training of specialists in the framework of graduate or postgraduate studies; activity on the position of teacher assistant, which is a link between pre-professional and professional stages; professional stage, which involves direct scientific and pedagogical practice and improvement of professional-pedagogical skills according to different programs of advanced training (national, institutional, individual). The main goal of training both masters and doctors on «Higher Education» specialty is to provide the high school of the country with scientific and pedagogical staff, highly skilled specialists in the sector of management; formation and implementation of national and regional policy in the field of higher education, work with student youth, conducting scientific research on various aspects of higher education. Doctoral programmes include the study of pedagogy of high school, legal aspects of higher education, history and philosophy of higher education, organisation and management of higher education and the methods of scientific research, including quantitative (statistical) methods of collecting and processing of information.
