Abstract

With selenophene as starting material, three selenophene-based organic semiconductor materials, namely, 1,2-bis(5-((E)-4-octylstyryl)selenophen-2-yl)ethene (1), 5,5′-bis((E)-4-octylstyryl)-2,2′-biselenophene (2), and 2,5-bis((E)-4-octylstyryl) selenopheno[3,2-b]selenophene (3), were synthesized. In 1 and 2, two selenophene rings were connected by double and single bonds, respectively, and in 3, two selenophene rings were fused together. Compounds 1–3 exhibited good crystallinity, and showed p-channel characteristics with mobilities of up to 0.01, 0.11, and 0.38 cm2 V−1 s−1, respectively. This study indicated that the combination mode of selenophene rings significantly affected the performance of organic field-effect transistors.
