Abstract
Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a deep fungal infection that can occur in the oral mucosa. The aim of the present study was to report the clinical case of a 32-year-old man with the chief complaint of an increase in the volume of the palate. An intraoral examination revealed a painful, disseminated granular red plaque in the palate, with a papillary surface. The clinical diagnosis was Leishmaniasis and oral PCM. An incisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathological analyses confirmed the presence of PMC. A pulmonary radiographic analysis showed the absence of fibrosis, an abdominal ultrasonography analysis showed no signs of alterations. Hematologic exams were performed and showed no alterations. The patient is also being followed up by an infectologist and exhibits healing of the lesions. This case reinforces the importance of a stomatologist in the elucidation of cases of systemic diseases with exclusive presentation in the mouth.
