Abstract

Lymphangioma is a rare, benign, and congenital malformation of lymphatic vessels, usually occurring in the first two decades of life, without spontaneous regression. A 12-year-old brown male patient, with no history of systemic diseases, complained of an asymptomatic lesion on the tongue that disappeared and appeared every two months, with an evolution of approximately one year. Physical examination revealed a lesion on the dorsum of the tongue on the right side, of unknown cause, with a nodular aspect, irregular surface, sessile implantation and purplish-red appearance. An excisional biopsy was performed, with a histopathological diagnosis of lymphangioma. The patient remains without recurrence of the lesion. The present case emphasizes the importance of understanding rare congenital lesions that may present oral manifestations.
