Abstract
Oral adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is a rare malignant neoplasm with both glandular and squamous differentiation and a tendency for aggressive clinical behavior. The tumor has a 13% to 50% survival rate after 5 years’ of treatment, with a predilection for men in the sixth or seventh decade of life. We report a case of a 63-year-old man with an ASC in the oral cavity. The tumor consisted of a hardened, painful, well-delimited mass in the dorsum of the tongue, extending through the oropharynx. The diagnostic hypotheses were epidermoid carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, or tuberculosis. An incisional biopsy was performed. The histopathologic analysis and the immunohistochemical reactions for CK7 and CK14 revealed a malignant neoplasm with adenocarcinomatous, glandular, and squamous components. After the diagnosis of an oral ASC, the patient was referred for appropriate medical management. The treatment consisted of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and radical surgical resection, due to metastasis. The patient is under careful follow-up.
