Abstract

A recirculating implementation of the crossover interconnection network based on optoelectronic architecture is presented in this paper. A flip-chip assembled CMOS/SEED (self-electro-optic-effect device) smart pixel array is used in this construction. The SEED array performs the optical-electrical conversion using a number of detectors and modulators while the CMOS devices handle the efficient logical processing. A combination of these two devices makes the interconnection of the optical system reconfigurable in each stage. As a result, a single stage optoelectronic set-up is sufficient to implement the whole multistage crossover interconnection network in a recirculating manner. A considerable amount of hardware is thus saved.
