Abstract

An optoelectronic chaos phase generator is reported, which involves conventional integrated optics and optical telecommunication components. Fast chaotic behavior of the optical phase with a constant optical power is experimentally demonstrated over multi-GHz bandwidth. Application to secure optical communications using chaos is discussed, as well as generation of high-purity rf oscillations, depending on the parameter settings. © 2005 Optical Society of America
