Abstract

The influence of the concentration on the optical absorption of disordered Cu-Pd alloys was measured. It can be reproduced with a simple model of the electronic structure, corresponding to the ‘coherent potential model’. In this derivation the dominance of indirect transitions was assumed. The following properties of the order disorder reaction on the electron structure and optical absorption in the region of the superstructures Cu 3-Pd and Cu-Pd can be derived from the measurements of the temperature dependence on the optical absorption: o 1. New Brilloinzones are formed, causing additional absorption. 2. The structure of the d-density of states sharpens. 3. The portion of the indirect transitions changes from a dominant one to a negligible one.
