Abstract

These investigators have reported a minimum subjective contrast at a given luminance level for a range of luminance levels examined. Previous data from a limited number of trained observers show what appears to be an optimum luminance level for a visual pattern which is seen with clarity. However, the present findings do not indicate an optimum luminance level, but show that clarity varies as a function of luminance, size, and starting contrast levels.
