Abstract

An effective method for determining the optimal position of actuators in tall buildings using genetic algorithm is introduced through the formulation of a discrete and non-linear optimization problem. The simulation study is carried out for a 16-story building under 18 different earthquake excitations. The effects of different earthquake excitations on the optimal placement of actuators and on the proposed optimization algorithm are thus examined.
